People and Places film - the next two years

People & Places has produced an animation which sets out the proposed next steps for its focus over the next two years, supporting the establishment of the Oversight Areas and the flourishing of all the clergy and lay leaders within them. This is a developing journey which we continue together, through discernment for all God is calling each of us to within our diverse contexts and within God’s purposes for us.

People and Places - Oversight Area

The first gathering of clergy, Readers and PCC members of our newly formed Oversight Area met on Saturday 27th January. It was a great opportunity to learn more about the parishes which we serve and how we might support one another. The three congregations are invited to a Bring and Share Supper on Tuesday 30th April, 7pm – 9pm. There will be more information nearer the time but do please put the date in your diaries

There will be an opportunity to meet the new Bishop of Birmingham, The Rt. Revd Dr Michael Volland, on the afternoon of Sunday 19th May at St David’s Church, Shenley Green.

The Rt. Revd Anne Hollinghurst is announced as the New Principal of Queens

From September 2024, Bishop Anne will succeed Prof Clive Marsh, who is retiring, as Principal of The Queen’s Foundation for Ecumenical Theological Educational, Birmingham.

‘It has been the most enormous privilege to serve as Bishop of Aston, and recently as Acting Bishop of Birmingham. Even as I write this, I acknowledge what a huge wrench it will be to step aside from day-to-day pastoral care, ministry and mission amongst you as a “jobbing bishop”. I take up my new role in September, and there will be opportunity for leave-taking and farewells in relation to my current ministry in due course, but I do want to express now that my following of this call will not mean that I stop praying for you all, or caring about what you and God will be up to together as part of Church of England Birmingham!’

Clergy cycle ride from Cardiff to Tenby in aid of the Safe Sleep Scheme

Members of KNMS clergy are taking part in the ‘Carten 100’ cycle ride from Cardiff to Tenby to raise money for the Safe Sleep Scheme. This pilot scheme is to provide sleeping equipment to families with children under 5 who are living in crisis situations. The need was recognised through some conversations that Thrive hosted with parents of young families across Birmingham, including families in temporary accommodation, where we learnt that parents did not have access to Moses baskets and cots so had no option but to share their bed with their baby or toddler.
