The builders made a quick start by removing most of the old kitchen on the first day. For the next 2 to 3 weeks, only limited work could be completed - flooring, plumbing and first fix electrics as well as building the storage cupboard - whilst waiting for asbestos to be removed from the ceiling space. Once removed, a new frame was installed in the ceiling and fire board installed before the suspended ceiling could be added. The kitchen units and appliances arrived on time ready to be sorted and installed. Base units, work surfaces, sinks and appliances were fitted over the next few days, followed by White Rock wall cladding as an alternative to plastering. The last couple of days before the end of the holiday period were a frantic rush to complete the remaining work before our regular users were able to move back in. Wall units, extractor fan, lighting, the water heater and final fix electrics were all completed as well as trimming and decorating. Minor snagging work and some painting was complete during the October half term holiday.
We're sure that you will agree that this is a superb job and a huge improvement to our facility to be used by many people of the community for years to come. Thanks go to Curtis and Wrenn Developments for the installation, and to E H Smith Kitchen and Bathrooms for design and supply of the kitchen units, and of course our sponsors - EH Smith Charitable Trust and the National Lottery Community Fund.
